Based in Northeast Baltimore City, the Urban Farmhouse supports homeowners and small business owners in cultivating a local diet through edible landscaping and food education services. We help our clients grow food in attractive, ecologically-friendly gardens and landscapes on urban and suburban properties, and teach them how to prepare and preserve the harvest. We offer a range of services, from basic garden consultations to full-service seed-to-harvest maintenance to seasonal cooking classes and workshops.

We work with each client to develop a customized service plan that fits their lifestyle (click here to complete the pre-consultation questionnaire). Those who wish to do the work themselves can follow our plans or work along side us to learn techniques. If you’re strapped for time, we’ll do the work and leave your harvest on your doorstep. No matter the experience level, our clients are provided with support and resources that build their capacity to steward their edible landscapes and reap the delicious rewards.

Our techniques are founded in principles of permaculture, agroecology, and ecological garden design. We specialize in helping you meet the unique challenges of urban and small space gardening so that you can farm whatever space is available, from a collection of containers to a large, high-yielding garden.

Urban Farmhouse is owned and operated by Chrissa Carlson. Chrissa is a native Baltimorean Master Gardener with years of experience in garden design, nutrition education, seasonal cooking, and food advocacy.
